About the West Seattle Food Bank

The West Seattle Food Bank is committed to providing food security and community connections to our neighbors in need.  This is provided through our ongoing programs:

Food Distribution- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic our facility based distribution has pivoted to an outdoor shopping model.  Shoppers enter through our front door wearing masks at all times and keeping 6' of distance to pick out meat and dairy.  They then proceed to the garage where shopping is set up to offer a variety of choices and more fresh options.

Mobile Food Bank Services Mobile Food Bank sets up an off-site distribution weekly in the lobbies of four locations for the disabled, elderly and others not able to make it to the food bank or we deliver a bag of groceries directly to their homes through our Home Delivery.

Backpack Program - Providing school children at risk of hunger with a "backpack" of food weekly, including six kid-friendly meals.  We are working with the school district to ensure that children are still getting nutritious food for the weekend while they are learning remotely.

Pet Pantry - Distributing donated pet food and other accessories to families we serve who need help taking care of their furry friends.

Helpline - Emergency financial assistance program providing help with rent, utility, and move in deposits to prevent the financial spiral that may lead to homelessness.  Free bus tickets to those who financially qualify with access to transportation to medical appointments, work, school, the grocery store and other vital services.

Clothesline - A free clothing store, the only one of it's kind in West Seattle, providing basic attire, professional wear and school clothing for infants, children and adults.  Located at 4425 41st Ave. SW with 10 am - 1 pm hours on Tuesday and Thursday, and the first and second Saturdays of the month.

Community Connections - Helping the families we serve access additional information and services from dozens of partner organizations.  Our volunteer-staffed Hotline serves as a hub to find resources to no-cost public and private services, including food assistance and healthcare.

Baby & Child Corner - Providing formula, baby food, diapers, car seats, strollers, toys, furniture, clothes & other accessories to parents of infants and toddlers who need a little help through our partner WestSide Baby and other donors.  Because of COVID-19 the Baby & Child Corner is closed until further notice.  Diapers and formula being distributed through our daily distribution.

The Bookcase - Providing the children and adults we serve with free, donated books to encourage healthy reading habits.  Because of COVID 19 our Bookcase is closed until further notice.  No donations are being accepted at this time.

  • Distributed over 2.57 million pounds of food and spent $338,774 on purchased food.
  • 15,000 individuals in need of food and services counted on the WSFB at some time during the year. We saw a 30% increase in visits to the food bank from the impacts of COVID.
  • Delivered food weekly to the homes of more than 500 elderly and disabled individuals not able to make it to the food bank through our Mobile Food Bank Services. This was more than double the previous year.
  • Our Pet Pantry distributed 22,000 pounds of pet food and accessories to clients to take care of their furry friends.
  • Our Helpline Services provided $163,901 in rent, utility, move-in and homeless prevention assistance.
